Galway Preservation Society

The Galway Preservation Society holds meetings at the Galway Town Hall, usually on the first Monday of each month. (Sept. meeting is the 2nd Monday of the month, and in June a picnic is held at another location. No meetings in July or August.)

Meetings begin at 7:15 pm with a social time and great refreshments, followed by the business meeting at 7:30 pm.  The program then starts at approximately 7:45 pm. Guests are always welcome to attend.

Program presentations range from group discussions or panels by members, to speakers on local history topics, to broader areas of interest relating to preservation. Look for the bright orange fliers around town or check local newspapers for each month's upcoming topic.

You may join the GPS at any time, although you do not need to be a member to attend the meetings. Membership dues is $10 per household and may be mailed to: Galway Preservation Society, PO Box 276, Galway, NY 12074. Please include name, address, phone and email, and mention any areas of interest. All members receive the GPS newsletter during the months we meet.

The Galway Preservation Society has extensive archives related to Galway history. We offer many interesting publications about Galway for sale at the meetings. Our members enjoy many opportunities for community involvement, through maintenance of the Village flower barrels, participation in the Memorial Day parade, working with the community's youth through the Memorial Day Essay Contest, and more. GPS also maintains the display cases in the lobby of Town Hall, with various interesting displays throughout the year.

Please join us at a monthly meeting if you are interested in learning more about our area, and preserving Galway's past for future generations. This is a wonderful way to meet neighbors, become involved with the community, and enjoy fresh home-baked treats each month!
