Town of Galway
Building Inspector / Zoning Administrator
Building Permit Application Process

2007 Office hours will be held at Galway Town Hall (5910 Sacandaga Road, Galway),  by appointment only.

An application for a Building Permit, that has been completed properly and submitted with all the required documents, should be processed and granted within seven to ten working days, if no additional information is needed.  Applications are reviewed in the order they are received.  There can be no exceptions.

If you are traveling a distance and will be coming without an appointment, it would be suggested that you call the Town Hall to verify that there has been no interruption in the Building Inspector's schedule.

It is your responsibility to request all required inspections.  Information on requesting inspections can be found on another web page by clicking here.  Failure to do so will make it impossible to receive your Certificate of Occupancy.  If you and your builder conscientiously adhere to the NYS Building Code and local Zoning Law, there should be no problems with  your project.  Violations of the Building Code and/or Local zoning Law will only cause delays and appearance in Town Court.

This is a part-time position, and you should not hesitate to contact me at my home (882-5226) to discuss your project.  There is an answering machine there, for your convenience.  I will return your call at the earliest opportunity.  I do understand that problems/changes will occur, it is most important that I am advised immediately.

Forms for your project are available at the Town Hall (882-6070), and will be mailed to you upon request.  All fees are payable when you pick up your permit, do not attach a check to your application.  The 2002 fee schedule is as follows:
            Residential         $8.00/100 sq. ft.
            Commercial       $9.00/100 sq. ft.
            Agricultural        $7.00/100 sq. ft.
Minimum fee will be $40.00
